I could not find the magazine on shelves yet, but I found the link:
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/10432334/was_the_2004_election_stolen
And if that goes bad I'll paste the story in. There were at least 2 books written on this, but maybe now it will start to get some traction. I laugh at almost every conspiracy theory out there, but I am coming to believe without hesitation that the 2004 election was stolen using multiple yet vary brazen tecniques. Some were dirty but unfortunately legal techniques, some should send people to jail.
Unfortunately, no matter how obvious it is now, it cannot be undone. But it tells us two things for the future we MUST take to heart:
- Democrats don't need to change our approach, because we actually did win and were right and the people don't actually want the Bush/Neocon way. The media want to proclaim our party dead and say we should be more Republican, some in our party want to do that too, but that would not be right. Democrats win fair elections.
- We have to implement a strategy to watch the vote to prevent frauds happening again, which means multiple things as individuals and a party:
- We need to volunteer to be election workers.
- We need to pay attention to the races of offices who oversee and could corrupt election (Secretary of State, etc.).
- We need to insist every district have enouogh working machines to cater to all its registered voters, regardless of majority party, class or race in an area. Also insist machine distribution plans be made public prior to the general election so we can call for changes PRIOR to an election they would like to rig. Machines must be tested and not let our community buy "black box" unauditable, unrecountable voting machines.
- We need to make sure that voter roles are stable for over a month prior to an election, no mass purges are done, and that people who are thrown off voting roles have some way of learning PRIOR to the voting booth and correcting it
- We need to make sure the media are alerted to the various frauds and that their viewers/listeners/readers want to know if they occur.
- We need to remind the media that when scientific polls become wildly innaccurate ONLY in certain races, certain districts, certain heavily contested areas and always going against one candidate, that's a troubling indication we need to know about.
So this is infuriating to have more proof of the great crime committed on all voters, but there is a silver lining. It proves that the most important thing to win future elections is not to renounce who we are or hide the values we truly believe in, it is instead to say what we have been and to take back the election machinery from the hands of those who stole it from us.
To repeat myself, Democrats win fair elections. Let's make sure the next one is fair.
